March 26 - 30, 2012
Happy Friday Beautiful Families!

Our sound of the week was "k"; go way down, slant in, then out, to make the sound "k". It was pretty hard to think of things that were "k" and not "c", but in the class we wrote them all on the board for a visual difference. Next week we will have NO sound of the week because on Friday, is a NO SCHOOL day, but a Teacher Work Day.

We have been keeping a close eye on our chicks from 4H and all of them hatched except one! A chick is a bird, that means that it has feathers and can fly, lays eggs, and has hollow bones. A question we pondered was which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I also brought in a whole bunch of frog eggs and have them in a small fish bowl in the middle of the classroom to watch them go through their life cycle called Metamorphosis. At the beginning o f the week we was tiny black dots (the eggs), then by today (Friday) we see that all the dots have a tail. This is the second stage of the cycle and they are now a tadpole. By the time we come back to school next week we will see if there are any legs growing out tot he tadpoles. Bugs also go through Metamorphosis, like a lady bug or even a butterfly. Spring is such a great time to explore nature and we will continue our discoveries throughout the next month.

We also finished adding our details to the paintings we did for the GMA Auction and studied another European Artiest named Leonardo da Vinci. As a young boy he loved to study many different things like botany, mechanics, the wind and aeronautics, architecture, science, drawing, agriculture, and engineering. All this curiosity and study led him to becoming a fantastic well rounded person who many of us even today look to as a role model as we continue to study from his discoveries. This empowered us to go the extra step in our work in the class and many of us a "Taking Off!" :)

Our Field Trip to Martin City was a lot of fun as we watched the performance "Rumpelstiltskin Recycled". It was a spin off from the tale Rumpelstiltskin spinning straw into gold to Rumpelstiltskin spinning straw into paper because they kingdom was short on paper and needed more, they had used theirs all up because they were so WASTEFUL! When you "Take Care of the Environment" you are not a wasteful person but you RECYCLE and REUSE!

Hope to see you all at the Auction TONIGHT! Next Tuesday we will be saying good bye to Europe and traveling to South America.

Peace to you and your little one,
Cristina and Shawna
